Interesting and traditional events worth experiencing
Anton Faistauer Weg
Famous painter Anton Faistauer was the son of our native community. In July 2010, a trail was opened that demonstrates the relation of the artist to Maishofen via 10 stations. Large boards provide information about his life and his relation to his countrypeople. The route stretches for around 8km and leads from the centre to Prielau, Mayrhofen and Schloss Kammer, and back to the starting point.
Band concerts
When the weather is nice, the traditional band of Maishofen organises a concert at the music pavilion in the centre of the municipality. There, guests and locals can listen to the traditional and modern sounds.
Bauernherbst
At the end of the season, the “Bauernherbst” farmers’ festival provides an interesting insight into the traditions of rural life with its events. Guests and locals alike can see and enjoy folk music, customs, costumes, culture and old handicraft from new perspectives. The highlight is the traditional “Jakobi-Festumzug” with local associations, vintage tractors, brass bands, the gun club, the fire brigade and costume groups - from the everyday working dirndl to the traditional garb. A good opportunity for all visitors to exchange with heart and soul with the old farming culture!
Almabtrieb Schloss Kammer
In September, the annual Almabtrieb takes place - a custom worth seeing for anyone. The adorned cows are led from the Alpine pastures to the valley and after their Alpine summer, they are taken back into their original stalls. In Maishofen, this is celebrated lavishly at the Schloss Kammer, a celebration to which holiday guests are also warmly welcome.
Perchtenlauf Krampusse
In the beginning of January, the Perchtenlauf takes place in Maishofen. During this major event, special focus is placed on tradition and custom. Percht is supposed to bring all the spectators together as a “lucky charm” and not a creepy figure. This event is supported by the traditional music group, the equestrian group and the local youth.
Cattle auction
On several Thursdays in the year, cattle auctions take place in Maishofen. For many guests, a visit to such an auction is surely interesting, gives an insight into the different breeds and would be a completely different holiday experience. Female cattle, bulls and calves are presented and auctioned. The most beautiful young cow in Pinzgau is also crowned, amongst other events.
